Most of my clients are from BI&POC or LGBTQIA+ communities. I strive to create an unconditionally affirming and accepting therapeutic space where you can feel comfortable to explore whatever you need to in order to heal and find your path to liberation. I work diligently to equalize the power dynamics within the therapeutic relationship, and I strive to act more as a collaborator that works with clients to identify their strengths, values, and beliefs. I utilize a trauma-informed, anti-oppressive/decolonization framework to support clients in their journeys toward growth, authenticity, empowerment, and self-acceptance. I recognize the significant effects that organizational structures and cultural contexts can have on the health and wellbeing of individuals, and also how these structures can negatively impact our perception of ourselves. In addition to my work with general mental health, I am also a sex therapist and sexuality educator. I am LGBTQIA+ affirming and kink/BDSM/poly friendly. I do not respond to any other inquiries other than the ones I receive directly through my website.
Before anything else, I prioritize and value the relationship I build with each person I work with and believe that therapy is a unique space where growth and change occurs through a strong, collaborative relationship. As your therapist, you can expect us to explore both your past and present experiences, as I believe our past often shapes how we experience ourselves, our relationships, and the world today. My goal is to help you develop greater self-awareness, authenticity, and curiosity about yourself. Together, we'll explore both your thoughts and emotions to better understand your experiences and identify meaningful ways to move forward. I believe that while there is much about the human experience that we all share, each person's story, identities, and life circumstances are uniquely their own. I see you as the expert on your own life and view therapy as a collaborative process. While you set the direction, I'm here to offer guidance and help us determine where our work can be most meaningful. I consider myself very much a "talk therapist," meaning I believe much of the therapeutic change occurs within the therapy relationship and room itself. I also strive to create a space that feels genuine, relaxed, and approachable. Therapy can absolutely involve difficult emotions, but it can also include laughter and moments of joy along the way.
With all the stresses in the world, especially now, you don't have have to face it alone. Let's talk about how I can best support you. I enjoy putting knowledge into practice and helping apply it to everyday behavioral changes. I can support you in healing old wounds and transforming patterns that lead us to feel stuck, overwhelmed, or depleted. I utilize cognitive-behavioral methods, acceptance and commitment therapy and EMDR - eye movement desensitization and reprocessing.

Establishing a strong working relationship is essential to positive therapeutic outcomes. I firmly believe that therapy works best when you match well on a personal level. Adjusting to college is hard. There's a lot of pressure to do well academically, socially, personally...and it can be helpful to have an unbiased person to vent to and talk about what you're struggling with. I specialize in treating individuals struggling with primary and secondary trauma. I use a multifaceted approach to therapy to meet my clients where they are and to suit their individual needs, whether trauma is a main focus or not.
Ready to unf#ck your nervous system? Let’s be completely real, you can’t think your way out of a survival response. If analyzing your childhood or making endless coping-skill lists worked, you wouldn't be reading this right now. Numbing out, doom-scrolling, or pushing through the exhaustion makes complete sense, until it doesn't.I don't do standard talk therapy. I don't sit silently while you vent for 50 minutes just to tell you to breathe. At The Unfiltered Couch Counseling, we go straight to the root, in your body. When you are stuck in constant survival mode, chronic illness flares up, burnout takes over, and your brain feels constantly foggy. Using specialized somatic approaches like Brainspotting, EMDR, and Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR), we target where stress and trauma are physically trapped in your nervous system. We clear out the heavy, physical weight in your chest and stomach so your body finally gets the memo that the danger is over.If you are ready for raw honesty, deep somatic shifts, and a therapist who actually curses back, you’re in the right place. Let's get your system back online.

My name is Amy Read and I am an Adult & Geriatric Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. I have specialized my interests in health & wellness after years of struggling with my own symptoms ... symptoms of pain, brain fog, IBS, difficulty with focus, inability to concentration, a very forgetful memory, and so many more. Like so many other suffering I feared the worse, I believed I must have early onset dementia or even cancer. Luckily, I was cleared of anything life threating, but I was told nothing could be done to make me feel better. I realized that I had to find a way to change the outcome, because I was not going to let my life slip by. Because of my personal challenges, I found functional medicine. I found a way to "cure" myself and reclaim my life. It was hard. It took a lot of time. It took work. It took family support. Now I am able to live again and I have many roles and titles, the best of which is being a mother to 6 beautiful children. I love the sun and the beach, if I have a day off that's where you'll find me! The water is mesmerizing and the sun enlightens my soul! I am now a functional medicine practitioner nurse practitioner and bring over 25 years of experience into my practice. Functional medicine has saved my life and become my passion for helping others. My own triumphs and trials with depression, anxiety, ADHD, food sensitivities and fibromyalgia allow me to have a deep understanding of what my clients are going through and what they need to have in order to achieve the life of their dreams. Through my programs, clients who are committed and ready for change, are able to obtain optimal health and wellness.
I'm a clinical social worker rooted in the ideals of self-determination, community justice, dignity, and liberation.
