Really, sports can be a great metaphor for life. They have the power to be more than just a game, a match, a meet, or an event; they are able to teach us things we never thought we needed to know. We often learn and grow through the games we love. As players in the game of life, we often get hit with curve balls. We can suffer from lows and rejoice in the highs. There are elements of the game we can control and others that we just have to be present for and ride out for a while. I believe in a collaborative and strengths-based approach to therapy because no one knows you better than yourself. My goal is to empower each client to draw on their strengths in order to navigate through the challenges one may face in the game of life. I strive to foster a holistic environment in an effort to see challenges from all angles. Often, what affects us “off the field” translates to the work we do on it.
One of my favorite quotes, “Change your thoughts and you can change your world” by Norman Vincent Peale, really inspires me to help clients realize hope for the future. The change comes from you, and we can start that process within the therapy room. Each person is unique in their own way, and because of this, they may need a unique approach to therapy. I look at the therapeutic relationship as a team: we can collaborate together to work on any issues that may be troublesome. You are the expert on your life, and I am here to help you navigate that life by providing a non-judgmental space, helping you to create change from within. I view therapy through a person-centered lens while using interventions pulled from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR, and solution-focused therapy (SFBT). Another big part of my practice is using Art Therapy to encourage clients to feel comfortable and able to express themselves on many levels. I’ll maintain the same openness that I want for my clients and make it a priority to keep a comfortable space so we can be present in the moment. Getting to know yourself—who you truly are—can be one of the most challenging yet empowering experiences in life, especially if you're someone who’s been told you think too much, feel too much, or just are too much in general. Many of them are figuring out how to live outside the lines: queer folks, neurodivergent folks, people in non-traditional relationships, or people who just never quite felt “normal,” whatever that means. As a neurodivergent queer therapist, I’m right there with you. With roots in narrative therapy and trauma-informed work, I bring a client-led, conversational approach. I enjoy helping individuals and relationships see and make sense of the ways their pasts show up in their present, especially those navigating formative trauma, major identity or life changes, or relationship patterns that feel stuck on repeat. Welcome! I'm Dr. Jasmine Easley, a trauma based therapist helping teens and women to heal trauma through mindful presence. I work with children, adolescents, and young adults. I am an MSU grad myself, and currently have both present and former clients who are students at State. I am offering short-term crises-type services at no charge to students affected by the recent tragic events on campus. Since I also have a busy practice in Novi, which is about an hour away from MSU, I would need to hold our sessions virtually. I have about 30 years experience as a therapist, and I would like to be of help during this very difficult time.
