Licensed Professional Counselor

My heart for hurting people was birthed out of my own journey of experiencing healing from trauma, abuse and loss. I am convinced that all of us are created with a potential for incredible resilience and with the right kind of compassionate support, we can bounce back from the worst of circumstances. I grew up in India and after moving to the US in 2001, received a M.A. in Professional Counseling from Grand Rapids Theological Seminary. Over the last 2 decades, I have enjoyed working with children and adults in various settings such as schools, women's shelters, colleges, churches and private practice. In my spare time I enjoy traveling, hiking, biking, kayaking, camping, cooking and enjoying conversations over a good meal with friends and family.

Why does insight alone, not lead to congruence between what you want and what you do? This is a question we would explore together. My areas of interest and experience include anxiety and depression, relationship difficulties, behavioral change through healthy habits, mindfulness, and exploring interpersonal struggles. We can focus on what resonates with you, work within any of life's domains where we believe change is possible, and go inward with mindfulness to sit with the parts of our realities that are beyond our control. Focusing on what we can control, however, is often the way forward.

Sometimes life can be overwhelming to the point that you feel stuck or you find it difficult to cope. I am here to help you address a range of issues, overcome obstacles, and embrace a new journey of growth and healing. I offer a warm, empathetic, non-judgmental approach in a safe environment for you to share your innermost thoughts and feelings that are consuming your mind. You will learn new ways to manage challenging emotions and complex thought-processes, adjust to life changes, improve connections with others, and learn other tools to help achieve better mental and emotional well-being. I am passionate about helping others by creating a therapeutic alliance with my clients to offer support and work collaboratively to create goals unique to their needs to improve their quality of life and help restore functioning. I have five years of clinical experience supporting adults to reduce emotional stress and symptoms resulting from challenging life experiences. I have worked in multiple settings: in private practice I have worked with individuals with depression, anxiety, anger/mood issues, and low self-esteem; in Community Mental Health I have provided case management and psychotherapy with older adults with severe and persistent mental illness such as depression, schizophrenia, and bipolar with medical comorbidity; in medical settings, including a veterinary hospital in which I worked with end of life issues and facilitated a pet grief/loss support group; as well as a Family Reunification Program and substance abuse treatment, both with individuals and groups.

Therapy is the ultimate form of self care. It can lead to radical self-acceptance, allowing you to manifest the positive goals you have for your life. Seeking therapy traditionally has had barriers, and I know breaking those barriers will create a better, more accessible, revolutionary, and empathic society. My clinical interests include working with LGBTQIA+ issues, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, domestic violence, and times of adjustment and change. I come from person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-focused modalities. I utilize an eclectic approach in our sessions, as each client is different. I believe in a therapeutic relationship that is equal and balanced. Our goals will be mutual and dynamic. You are an expert in your life, and I look forward to working together to create the healthy and positive change you see for yourself.

Hey there! I know that therapy can feel intimidating, so let’s first acknowledge and congratulate your willingness to take a step toward healing. My goal is to come alongside and partner with you while we work through the different pains that life can bring us. I have experience working with individuals going through various struggles: depression, anxiety, relational conflict, faith issues, substance use, stress, grief, chronic pain, life transitions, self esteem. My approach to therapy is person centered and based on individual needs and goals. I will take time to develop a relationship with you to build trust and have this be a safe place. I have clinical training in cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, crisis intervention, and certified as an advanced addiction and drug counselor. Also, I am able to provide a faith-based approach to therapy for those who are interested and request this. I have worked in community mental health agencies throughout the Grand Rapids area providing outpatient therapy for the last 7 years. I graduated with my bachelors degree in social work from Ferris State University and then received my masters in social work through Michigan State. I would love to partner with you and help overcome the barriers that are holding you back. You don’t have to do this alone. Fun facts: I have a 6 year old Golden Retriever named Jubilee :) I love the outdoors, I’m a certified scuba diver, I enjoy baking, and last but not least, despite getting my masters fromMichigan State I’m a huge Michigan Football fan! Go Blue!
