Therapy is the ultimate form of self care. It can lead to radical self-acceptance, allowing you to manifest the positive goals you have for your life. Seeking therapy traditionally has had barriers, and I know breaking those barriers will create a better, more accessible, revolutionary, and empathic society. My clinical interests include working with LGBTQIA+ issues, depression, anxiety, grief, relationship issues, domestic violence, and times of adjustment and change. I come from person-centered, strengths-based, and trauma-focused modalities. I utilize an eclectic approach in our sessions, as each client is different. I believe in a therapeutic relationship that is equal and balanced. Our goals will be mutual and dynamic. You are an expert in your life, and I look forward to working together to create the healthy and positive change you see for yourself.

The clients I've worked with that have reported the greatest success all have one thing in common: They tried their hardest in and out of session to challenge themselves. I firmly believe that every person has the answers they are searching for within themselves. I often work with clients to build up their faith & trust within themselves so that they no longer go through life second guessing everything they do. During the young adult stage of life people often believe that they are supposed to have everything in their life figured out. I believe that if you really work hard at getting to know yourself, you will have all the tools you'll need to figure out what is best for you going forward.

Although we have little control over the hand that life deals us, I believe in the hope that it is never too late to heal, to learn new and more effective behaviors…to create the life that you have always dreamed of living. What does it take to get there? What is holding you back? Those answers lie within each one of us. I enjoy creating an alliance with my clients, to be a guide in their own journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and acceptance. I believe in creating an environment that balances just the right amount of acceptance and change; one that is safe, nonjudgmental, and validating. I look forward to joining with you, exactly where you are, in your life journey. I have worked at Therapy Today since March 2012, and have worked in the mental health field for 25 years providing treatment services in private practice, schools, and in social service agencies, notably Community Mental Health of Clinton, Eaton, and Ingham Counties. I have provided case management and individual and group therapy to adults with serious and persistent mental illness. I have a professional interest and passion to counsel adolescents, adults, families, and couples using evidence-based approaches and interpersonal practices. With supporting individuals overcoming trauma, mental illness, and/or substance abuse, I've learned how to aid in promoting an individual's personal sense of resilience through mindfulness techniques, along with other interventions, eliminating barriers to treatment. My clinical orientation includes, but is not limited to, cognitive behavioral therapy, psychodynamic, existentialism, and person-centered approaches. By observing how individuals’ home and school environments influenced their behaviors, I found a unique fascination and understanding in how systems influence an individual and family.

“Anything that’s human is mentionable, and anything that is mentionable can be more manageable. When we can talk about our feelings, they become less overwhelming, less upsetting, and less scary. The people we trust with that important talk can help us know that we are not alone.” -Fred Rogers Our experiences throughout life shape us in many ways. I work with individuals to empower them to better understand themselves, and the ways in which they manage life’s hardships, as stress and trauma are often unavoidable experiences of life. I am a trauma-focused mental health therapist, who believes that everyone has their own unique strengths for surviving and thriving through life’s ups and downs. My approach to therapy is strengths-based and attachment-focused. I value building a therapeutic alliance, and my intention is to have each individual feel heard and supported in our time together. I strive to promote a healing environment using active listening, sensitivity, and non-judgmental compassion for everyone’s unique situation.

I work with variety of clients, but most of my clients come to me for help with relationship issues -- significant other, friend, family and work relationships. College students often come to me with issues related to roommates, gaining independence from parents, anxiety related to overwhelming school work, career choices and figuring out who they are. College years can be an amazing time of growth and opportunity, but they can also be incredibly stressful. I love to help college students navigate and find their ways through the many twists and turns of college life. (In MI, a Limited License Psychologist can practice under the supervision of a Fully Licensed Psychologist. Supervisor: Joseph J. Horak, PhD, LP)

Bath Township, MI

Welcome. I’m Chloe. I received my Master's in Social Work from Michigan State University and have been practicing for 14 years. I have spent my career walking alongside children, teens, and adults as they navigate issues of grief and loss, anxiety, and depression. In my practice, I focus on validating each client’s unique experience. I allow clients to share information and process emotions at their own pace. I use a collaborative, integrative approach when working with clients to develop a treatment plan that fits with their needs. Although, grief is often seen as inherently connected with love, grief can also arise from complicated situations. It is not uncommon for someone to experience feelings of grief despite not having “liked’ the person when they were alive. This can bring up a mix of emotions including sadness, anger, regret, guilt, relief, and many others. The situation can leave the client feeling conflicted about grieving someone who has hurt them or someone they know. I work to develop therapeutic relationships where clients feel safe to begin to unlayer these complicate emotions and find a way to release the emotional burden associated with them. In my practice, I respect that each client has their own unique journey and I seek to listen with compassion, patience, and genuineness. I strive to provide a safe and welcoming space where clients can take the time needed to work through their feelings to ultimately heal and grow.
