Therapists for college students near University of Minnesota
Everyone deserves support, however they arrive — color-coded planner in hand or running five minutes late with coffee spilled down their shirt. Anxious, calm, talkative, quiet, existentially confused — you’re welcome here. The bigger question is really: Am I your kind of therapist? You might read my profile and think, “She gets me,” or, “Why is she so emotionally invested in foxes and axolotls?” Either way, I promise I’m still licensed. I’m an LPC-MHSP, LCPC with over nine years of experience. I mainly work with PTSD, OCD, DV/SA, and BPD. I also see a range of other concerns—because humans are complex, and the universe did not consult the DSM before handing out life experiences. People usually open up more when they don’t feel pressure to perform or deliver a TED Talk about their feelings. Autonomy matters to me. You get to ask questions, collaborate on your treatment, and arrive exactly as you are — glamorously put-together or held together by three bobby pins and sheer willpower. If you need to laugh, cry, swear, or take a strategic pause while your soul hits “buffering,” that’s part of the process. Life gets messy… it's real and unfiltered. *** I schedule by appt so I do not have posted hours. Please just reach out. I am flexible!

I'm Julie TenBrook, PHMNP. I'm the owner of Open Minds. Open Minds symbolizes acceptance, on my part, of who you are without judgement. It, also, symbolizes the opening of your mind to change and healing. Being in college is a time of rapid growth. This can be hard. Figuring out how to navigate school, new relationships, new routines and define who you are as a young adult can be stressful. If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, and anxious, I can help. Treatment is tailored to what you need. It is usually multi-modal and not "just" medications or "just" therapy. Everyone's needs are different and we can design a treatment plan that fits you.
Hi!! My name is Melissa Urbanek. I am a therapist that specializes in working with children, teens, college students and young adults. My practice is telehealth only that serves clients in Minnesota and Wisconsin.
We have been taught that emotions are not meant to be felt but rather controlled. To hide the bad ones and only show the good ones. That sitting in them for too long means we are either dramatic, obsessive, or abnormal. If you have ever been told, either by others in your life or you yourself, that your emotions are too much or too complicated, I would like to say, “I hear you, and I am here for you.” In our sessions I would like to provide you with an environment where your emotional expression is celebrated and not reprimanded as I believe we can begin to heal once we have allowed ourselves to fully feel, without judgment or policing. Whether that is guilt, shame, sadness, anger, grief, anxiousness, and anything in between, we can work on processing them together at your own pace. I know that starting therapy can be a daunting and overwhelming task. However, getting the help you deserve and finding a therapist that fits your needs is already the first step!
I take a holistic approach to well-being, recognizing the deep connection between physical, emotional, and mental health. Whether you’re facing stress, anxiety, life transitions, health concerns, or simply feeling stuck, I will meet you where you are. Together, we’ll work toward healing, resilience, and meaningful change. You can view my insurance and schedule appointments with me at:https://care.headway.co/providers/jill-staloch

I specializing in supporting individuals through major life transitions, including the transition to college. College can be an exciting, new thing, but it can also be full of anxiety and worry as well. I know how hard it can be to suddenly find yourself on your own for the first time and have no idea what you are doing. I know how hard it can be to feel as if you need to have your whole life figured out at the ripe age of 20. I know how hard it can be to switch majors and feel behind. I love to meet clients where they are at while slowly pushing them to where they want to be. I have a wide background in trauma and anxiety and offer evidence based practices such as EMDR. Contact me today to set up your free 15 minute consultation!
You are sitting in therapy watching your therapist's lips move while she tells you for the fourth time that her cousin is gay and just got a “very butch” haircut. You can’t help thinking, “She just doesn’t get it.” He misgenders you, or forgets your partner’s pronouns, she pulls out Food and Mood, and he talks about how apple cider vinegar might be the solution to all your problems. She hasn't lived in a fat body. He hasn’t experienced homophobia or heterosexism from the inside. What initially seemed like a small hill to climb in your relationship has started to feel like a mountain. Maybe she tells you your black top is so slimming. Maybe once he referred to queer people as ‘homosexuals.’ Maybe, when you report your experiences of oppression, she tells you that the other party probably meant well and just wanted you to be healthier or have it easier in the world. You don’t trust him with your whole self, how can you? You’ve tried so many therapists in the past and she’s not that bad, is she? You continue to hope that therapy with a therapist who doesn’t quite get it will be enough to meet your needs. It’s not enough. You deserve a therapist who understands your lived experiences. You deserve a therapist who knows what it’s like to have your doctor prescribe weight loss to treat arthritis in your wrists, and who can truly hear it when you tell them about your experience with your homophobic aunt at Thanksgiving. You deserve a therapist who approaches the world with a solid intersectional anti-oppression framework that sees society, rather than some flaw in you, as the central piece of your problem. I can be that therapist. I’m fat, I’m queer, I have an intersectional lens, and I want to dismantle systems of oppression one client session at a time.

Hey! My name is Elena, I use she/her pronouns, and I work with rebels, rioters, and revolutionaries. My practice is one that centers and celebrates authenticity, courageous exploration, and a collaborative, therapeutic relationship. In practice, this can look like taking the time to build trust and connection, pulling from a wide variety of modalities, and curiosity and silliness when needed (which I believe is often!) I have seen many therapists feel the need to rush into “fixing”; in my work, there is no rush and there is no “fixing”. Together, we will sit in the messy experience of being human; exploring and learning from our pain while uplifting and celebrating the joys. We will co-create your therapy experience, making it into whatever you need it to be in order to feel as safe as possible. I bring an anti-oppression and decolonization lens to the work of therapy, as this helps to ensure that I do my best to mitigate the harmful impacts of these systemic issues in the healing space. I will certainly make mistakes. I hope you do, too! These are opportunities for both of us to practice collective learning, unlearning, and healing. I believe that therapy is community. We may share certain identities and there will be those we do not share, yet it remains a community. Let's be in joyous community together!
Hi, I'm Brianne. I'm a licensed therapist who works with people going through life changes, tough transitions, or just trying to figure things out. If you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure of what's next, you're not alone. I work with students who are juggling a lot - classes, relationships, family expectations, and everything in between. Sometimes it helps to talk to someone who will listen without judgment. Therapy with me is real, honest, and focused on what matters to you. We’ll figure things out together, one step at a time.
Are you looking for someone to connect to who will listen, empathize, and provide non-judgmental feedback? Are you someone who struggles with emotional expression, anger, and thinks therapy is "not for you"? Are you adjusting to college life and need a bit of support through the transition? I can help. I am a compassionate, genuine, non-judgmental therapist. I focus on creating a safe space in which each individual feels heard and understood while promoting awareness, growth, and change. I draw from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) principles as well as have specialized training in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), a trauma-based therapy approach. It can be so intimidating to take the first step of reaching out to a therapist for support. I get it, I've been there myself, and trust me, it's worth it. When you contact me, I promise to provide a warm and professional consultation to help you decide if I can meet your needs and if we would be a good fit to work together.
Hello neurodivergent folks! If you've been diagnosed or curious about ADHD, Autism, OCD, or identify as a sensitive person, welcome! My clinical background is in disordered eating and body acceptance from a body liberation lense. I am passionate about radical self acceptance, self compassion, and human rights. I am the ideal therapist for you if you: can meet during the day, swear, want consistency, and if you want to strengthen your instincts. Feeling our feelings is sometimes uncomfortable, so I believe in collaborating with you to help you remember your wise, resilient self is safe. My special interests include ADHD, AUDHD, anxiety, Intuitive Eating, life transitions, fat liberation, and somatic work. I practice therapy from a decolonized lens. Prioritizing your needs and creating a safe space for you is always my first goal.
