We all strive for success in our lives. How we function as parents, professionals, students, or children is shaped by a delicate interaction between factors inside us and outside of us. Our inherited traits, past experiences, and current circumstances all play a role in influencing how we navigate life’s challenges. Yet, it can sometimes be difficult to identify which of these factors are enhancing or hindering our ability to function at our best. The key to greater satisfaction and success lies in being aware of these internal and external factors, understanding how they influence our behavior, and learning how to regulate their impact. As a physician trained in adult, child, and adolescent psychiatry, I take a deeply individualized approach to each of my patients. I work with you to promote a healthy, psychoanalytically oriented exploration of yourself, helping you uncover the root causes of any emotional or psychological distress. By understanding these underlying factors, we can work together to create a clear path toward healing and growth In addition to working with individuals, I also collaborate closely with parents to support the emotional and psychological development of their children. Parenting can be incredibly challenging, and it’s important to approach it with insight and support. I work with families to develop highly individualized strategies that promote mental health, emotional resilience, and a more fulfilling life for everyone involved. Whether you are facing longstanding struggles or simply want to explore your thoughts and feelings more deeply, I invite you to reach out. Together, we can enhance your mental health, achieve greater emotional balance, & improve your overall satisfaction with life. I look forward to hearing from you and supporting you on your journey.

Hi, I'm Lori with Starfish Counseling for Grief and Loss. When a loss occurs, whether it's a death, a relationship break-up, or some other type of loss, going through the grief process can be tricky while you're also handling other responsibilities, like school and friends. You may not be able to juggle it all, so you try to get help but you don't know who to go to. Maybe you've tried going to your school's counseling center, only to be told you have to wait several weeks or even months to be seen. What do you do in the meantime? As I see it, you have two choices - try to live with your grief without help and move forward or talk to someone to figure out what your life can be like after loss. In my experience, moving forward is much easier to achieve when you've talked to someone who has the tools and knowledge to help you process your grief. I am that someone. Because I've had a lot of loss and I've worked for nearly 20 years with people who've had loss, trauma and grief, I have the experience and the know-how to help. I take a client-centered approach, so I never use a one-size-fits-all strategy. Instead, I lean on cognitive, somatic and creative approaches to guide and offer support. I'd be honored to work with you.

Therapy with me is a safe place to explore thoughts and feelings, gain insight into patterns, intrapersonal and interpersonal dynamics and to put that insight into action in your day-to-day life so that you are achieving all that you have set out to do. Get to know me In our first session together, here's what you can expect In our first session together, we'll start with brief introductions, then dive into the specific challenges you're facing. This will help me create a tailored plan for us to work through in follow-up sessions. The treatment methods and tools I utilize I believe in using an individualized and eclectic approach combining evidence-based approaches including cognitive-behavioral, interpersonal, emotionally focused, mindfulness-based, and solution-focused schools of psychotherapy to target troubling symptoms and to heal past emotional wounds as we work jointly to improve your functioning and overall quality of life. Hi, I’m Emily. I work with students and adults who are navigating stress, relationships, life transitions, or the pressure of feeling like they have to keep everything together. I’m an LGBTQ+ affirming therapist and welcome people from all backgrounds, identities, and experiences. It’s important to me that therapy feels comfortable, respectful, and genuinely useful. My style is warm, collaborative, and thoughtful. You don’t need to come in with the right words or have everything figured out. We can slow things down, look at what may be happening beneath the surface, and find practical ways to make everyday life feel more manageable. My hope is that therapy helps you feel more grounded, more confident, and more connected to yourself.
At times, life can feel overwhelming. As if you are just going through the motions of day-to-day life. Many times you do not even recognize it until life becomes too hard and the task you once enjoyed, now takes all of your energy. My role as your therapist is to help you sort out negative emotions, thoughts, or behaviors that leave you feeling as if you are running on auto pilot. Together we will work on identifying unhealthy patterns in our thoughts and reactions, we will dig deep into our emotions and being, as well as develop techniques and skills to feel in control and stable. I come from a casual mindset in sessions but focus on challenging the negative thoughts patterns and working with the individual on overwhelming beliefs, behaviors, or feelings. I will focus on how emotions and negative thoughts impact your overall wellbeing and find solutions to get out of these cycles! I am trauma focused trained and well versed in the LGBTQ+ culture.

Welcome to Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy! My name is Edward Chan, and I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and founder of Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy. I specialize in supporting Asian American college students and young adults as they navigate the unique challenges that can come from balancing personal goals, family expectations, cultural values, and the pressures of academic and professional success. Many Asian American students grow up carrying messages about achievement, responsibility, sacrifice, and making their families proud. While these values can be sources of strength, they can also contribute to anxiety, perfectionism, self-criticism, burnout, difficulty setting boundaries, and a persistent feeling of never being "good enough." You may find yourself succeeding on paper while privately struggling with stress, loneliness, imposter syndrome, or uncertainty about who you are beyond what you accomplish. Therapy offers a space to slow down and explore these experiences without judgment. Together, we can better understand the influences that have shaped you, process the challenges you're facing, and develop practical tools to manage anxiety, build self-confidence, strengthen relationships, and create a life that feels aligned with your own values—not just the expectations placed upon you. My approach integrates evidence-based therapies including CBT, ACT, DBT, and insight-oriented therapy while remaining sensitive to the cultural, familial, and identity-related experiences that many Asian American students navigate. Whether you're struggling with academic pressure, family dynamics, relationships, career decisions, or your sense of belonging, you don't have to carry it alone. At Unspoken Roots Psychotherapy, I strive to create a space where the experiences that often go unspoken can be explored openly, helping you cultivate greater self-understanding, balance, and fulfillment as you navigate college and beyond.
