Children, teenagers, and young adults are more overwhelmed today than ever. The daily challenges they face can be highly stressful and can lead to significant impairments in self-esteem, family relationships, school functioning, friendships, and other important areas of life. My ultimate goals as a therapist are to help young people find good life balance and develop a sense of peace within themselves. I enjoy providing a space where individuals and families can safely work through difficult situations, while learning to feel good about themselves, acquire problem-solving skills, maximize their natural strengths, and utilize the supports they have in their lives.

Current openings for new clients are available as of 9/1/2021. Throughout our lives, experiences we have can lead us to feel disconnected in various ways, from our own sense of self and values, important people in our life, and our emotions. This disconnection can result in feelings of loneliness and isolation, lack of motivation, overwhelming anxiety, or uncertainty about who we are and what we want in life and it often leads to unhealthy ways of coping (e.g., emotional eating, focusing too much on work, lack of self-care, etc.). My focus in working with clients is to help them reconnect with themselves, with others, and with their emotions so that they can lead a more satisfying life filled with meaningful relationships and purpose. My approach to therapy is primarily rooted in a modern psychodynamic orientation. As such, I value the development of a strong therapeutic relationship and meaningful connection with clients. Together, we work on understanding unhealthy patterns and improve ability to cope with distress, manage multiple life roles, live a more balanced life, and connect more fully with emotions. I am especially passionate about working with college-aged students and athletes who may be experiencing eating and/or body image concerns, as well as issues related to men and masculinity. . I earned my Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Penn State University and completed my internship and post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at Penn State University.

You’ve done the work. Therapy isn’t new to you—you’ve been there, talked through it, gained awareness. You get why you are the way you are, but despite all of that, you still feel stuck. Like no matter how much you understand your past, something deeper is keeping you in survival mode. Maybe you had to grow up fast. Maybe life didn’t give you much room to just be a kid. You’re great at figuring things out, staying strong, analyzing your feelings—but sometimes, it feels like you’re thinking your way around healing instead of actually feeling it. That’s where I come in. I specialize in EMDR, a therapy that helps you move past what’s keeping you stuck—not just in your mind, but in your body and nervous system, too. If you’ve already explored meditation or mindfulness, even better! That means you already know how to tune in—now, we’ll go deeper. If you’re ready to stop just understanding your past and actually move beyond it, I’m here to help. Let’s do this work together. If you take the wheel on this journey, I'll be in the passenger seat with a compass and a map to be a partner all along the way.

I offer an informal approach to therapy where you can be totally free to be who you are. I have a lot of experience in working with clients with depression, anxiety and neurodiversity (ADHD/Autism). I also would be a good fit for anyone experiencing grief and loss—either through a death of a loved one, the end of a relationship, or life just hasn’t turned out the way you expected. I also understand that college can be a really tough transition and a crazy stressful time in life. I’ve been there and I would love to help you through it. Additionally, I am part of a first responder family and love to work with clients who are first responders (or love one) as I have personal and professional training and experience in this area.

Embarking on a journey towards mental well-being takes both vulnerability and courage. Therapy is a transformative space where vulnerability turns into strength, and courage takes the helm of your healing journey. As your collaborative partner, I would be honored to walk alongside you and support you as you navigate life's challenges and discover the strength within you. About Me: I am a therapist rooted in the foundational principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), meaning I focus on the intertwining of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. My approach to therapy is enriched by a versatile blend of various modalities, including Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), and Motivational Interviewing (MI). I also utilize skill-building modalities, such as Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to assist clients in working towards their goals in therapy. My approach is individualized to support the specific needs of each client. During our time together, it is my hope that you feel empowered to explore, express, and grow, that you feel supported to show up authentically as yourself. Specialization: I bring a wealth of experience supporting clients on identity formation/exploration, anxiety, depression, body image, postpartum issues, ADHD, Autism, and those who are a part of the foster care/adoption community. I have been able to assist clients with navigating new relationships and relationship changes (such as divorce or separation), processing infidelity, and navigating child/caregiver and adult child/parent relationships. I will often address relational issues through an attachment lens, and process the impact that attachment styles have on one’s interactions and behaviors in relationships. I am also passionate about supporting individuals living with chronic illnesses and disabilities. Having walked a similar path, I deeply understand the intricacies of such experiences. I bring not only professional expertise but also a deep well of empathy. Together, we will navigate the intricacies of your struggles with compassion and understanding. Life is challenging and trying to figure out who you are, where you are going and what your purpose is, is hard enough. Then we throw in friendships, romantic relationships, careers and family dynamics and we can get overwhelmed so easily. In therapy we work together to find clarity. I have significant experience helping young adults in their 20s and 30s to alleviate symptoms of anxiety and depression by exploring relationship and work difficulties, figuring out adulthood, and navigate feeling lost amongst your peers. I work with college students and young professionals navigating young early adulthood. Where we go in therapy depends on you. I take my expertise and knowledge and tailor it to meet your personal needs and what would bring you relief. I use Acceptance and Commitment Therapy which is rooted in mindfulness and self-compassion with a focus on living a life that makes you feel fulfilled. Whether this is your first time looking for a therapist or you've traveled down this road before, good for you. Asking for help requires courage. If you are looking to work with a therapist that will be interactive, non-judgmental, empathic and kind, reach out to see if we are a good fit. Hi! I’m Irene, and I am happy you are here. If you are neurodivergent woman searching for a therapist, you deserve someone who is non-judgmental and values your uniqueness. Have you been dealing with anxiety, fear, depression or anger? You may be in a partnership with another neurodivergent person, and you struggle with communication, or you may have trouble keeping up with daily life, like taking care of your living space, or doing the laundry. Maybe your children are grown and out of the house, and you are not sure what to do next with your life. All of this may be difficult to navigate. We can work together to make life less challenging. I am passionate about providing a non-judgmental, neuro-affirming therapeutic space for my clients. I have worked in the special education field for years and have collaborated with parents of neurodivergent children. I work with folks who are finding that their life seems to be more difficult than those around them. We can collaborate to support you in a person-centered setting. Counseling is different for each of us, and together we can work to achieve your goals. With my integrative approach, I will meet you where you are in your journey to wellness. We can do this together! Working under the supervision of Colleen Torrey.
