I work with folks navigating various life and identity-related stressors, significant life changes, trauma, depression, and anxiety. Being in school comes with its own unique challenges, while daily personal and global issues are still showing up and impacting us. I've worked with folks from many walks of life, and have extensive experience supporting people in the LGBTQIA2S+ community. My modalities encompass various forms of talk therapy, as well as somatic therapy, ecotherapy, and Brainspotting.
I earned my PsyD (Doctor of Psychology) degree at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology and I have worked in different settings including university/community counseling centers, dual diagnosis treatment centers, and psychiatric hospitals (Austen Riggs Center). I work from a psychoanalytic orientation. This approach emphasizes the importance of both past and present experiences, relationships, emotions, patterns of being, and the unconscious. While it is natural to want to move away from suffering, it is when we give it a voice that healing can begin. Though genetics can play a role in the development of psychiatric problems; symptoms are some of the ways our psyche and body deal with pain that has not been understood, contextualized, and articulated. My goal as a psychoanalytic therapist is to help my patients notice how their symptoms are not accidental experiences to dodge, but rather meaningful communications to explore. Only through this inquiry can patients tap into interpersonal and intrapersonal as well as conscious and unconscious phenomena that have shaped their life and continue to contribute to their suffering.

I have had a wide variety of clinical experience working with clients through trauma and PTSD, depression, anxiety, neurodivergent stress, life transitions and existential stress, and work/life/school stress. Additionally, I have worked with client presentations and experiences including multicultural, LGBTQIA+, and other identity considerations and related stress including internalized oppression, working through impacts from sexual assault, combat trauma, and other trauma responses, as well as many un-categorized experiences of clients that affect their inner and external worlds. I use several evidence-based practices (e.g., Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy) as well as integrating these and other therapies within less structured (or more structured!) treatment.
Are you feeling anxious! I can give you a good understanding of neuroscience, how your brain works, and techniques so that you can better manage your anxiety. I enjoy helping college students gain a better understanding of how thoughts and experiences influence emotions and so I will provide you with practical feedback on your own thoughts/emotions to guide you in reaching your goals. I offer therapy with or without a Christian perspective. Your choice. No judgement from me, only support and encouragement to help you manage your difficulties.
Licensed to offer therapy services in Virginia, Tennessee, and Michigan, Dr. Honeycutt is often sought out due to the advanced IFS (Level 3) training he received in 2010 under the model's founder, Dr. Richard Schwartz. With particular interest in how the ancient Judeo-Christian understanding of the psyche (soul) overlaps with modern theories of mental health, he has spoken on this subject at conferences, educational seminars, and university classrooms. Approaching work with clients from a Christian framework of psycho-spiritual health, Dr. Honeycutt combines modern-day techniques and psychological research with an ancient understanding of the human condition as created by God. Non-Christian clients who are interested in such an approach are also welcome. Sessions are typically offered online for those living outside the Lynchburg area.
Hi, I am Dr. Kenya! Have you been experiencing anxiety or feel depressed regarding relationships, college adjustments, or family stressors? How about self-esteem, navigating social life, and setting boundaries? Well, there is room for you here! I am to cultivate a space that offers liberation and freedom to explore, to learn how to be your authentic self, and tap into your vulnerability while striving to reach your personal and professional goals. With nearly 20 years of experience as a mental health counselor, I bring a compassionate, easy-going approach to therapy, creating a safe and supportive space for clients to explore their challenges and build resilience. My practice integrates evidence-based modalities, including Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and trauma-focused interventions, to address a wide range of mental health concerns. I am particularly passionate about the role of mindfulness and mindfulness meditation in emotional regulation, stress reduction, and personal growth. By incorporating these practices, I help individuals cultivate self-awareness, manage distress, and develop healthier coping strategies. Whether working through anxiety, depression, trauma, or life transitions, my goal is to empower clients with the tools they need to navigate life’s complexities with greater clarity and confidence. My therapeutic style is warm, nonjudgmental, and collaborative. I believe in meeting clients where they are, tailoring treatment to their unique needs, and fostering a sense of balance and well-being.
I am accepting new clients and have a secure HIPPA compliant online video chat service if you prefer online sessions. I enter the therapy space and relationship with you with acceptance and no judgment. We all have struggled with things and sometimes we need a little help to get unstuck or a new perspective. Victor E. Frankl said, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.” Are you feeling overwhelmed and have more anxiety than usual and notice your body and mind are stressed out daily? Maybe you are feeling stagnant and stuck in some way (at work, at home, and/or socially) and can’t seem to move from that stuck place. Are you experiencing conflict or agitation with yourself or with others and your relationships? Are you finding yourself ruminating or obsessively thinking about the past and/or the future and not able to stay focused and/or enjoy the moments you have each day? No matter your age, religion, race, sexual orientation and where you are on life’s continuum, I will hold healing and safe space for you. I will work with you to navigate life’s rough waters and paths and help you find meaning, explore options, and work towards solutions that are acceptable and obtainable for you. I do not fear your problems, trauma, grief, and/or challenges. I am not afraid to go with you to the hard places in the heart, mind, and body. I too have experienced trauma and grief, and have done my own self-work. I will work with you and be vulnerable with you because I believe and trust that my story and life’s experiences are my wisdom to help others gain theirs. Please contact me and we can begin your journey to healing.
