Therapy is all about walking alongside someone in their journey through life. Reaching out for counseling takes courage, humility and strength. I'm not here to give you advice. You already have the answers! I'm here to help you incorporate them into your daily life. My goal is to meet you where you are today, and to create a warm and safe environment throughout therapy. I truly believe that you are the expert on yourself and therefore take a collaborative approach to therapy where we will work together on setting goals and creating effective change. Our life's journey presents a variety of challenges and I am here to help you identify your strengths and skills, process your thoughts and help you determine the best ways to respond to these struggles. I would feel honored to walk alongside you as you experience peace, freedom, personal growth and a more vibrant life through better mental health and wellness.

Hi! I'm Amanda. I work primarily with teens and adults of all ages. I offer virtual appointments only. I work primarily with teens and adults anxiety, depression, OCD, ADHD, autism, life transitions, relationships and LGBTQIA2S+ identities. I specialize in sex/sexuality and am a kink/BDSM affirming provider, offering a compassionate, affirming, and nonjudgmental space to explore identity, sexuality, and relationships. My goal is to support you as you adapt to challenges, grow through transitions, and celebrate wins—big and small! I believe that therapy is your space, and my role is to meet you exactly where you are. I approach our work together with curiosity, creating a supportive and affirming environment where you can feel safe to explore life’s challenges and opportunities. My goal is to walk alongside you, offering compassion, insight, and respect every step of the way. My goal is to support you as you adapt to challenges, grow through transitions, and celebrate wins—big and small! My work as a therapist is deeply informed by my personal experiences while caring for a parent. Navigating the inequities and bureaucracy of the healthcare system exposed me to the many barriers families can face when seeking support. This experience fuels my commitment to providing accessible, inclusive and equitable care. Outside of sessions, I enjoy painting, playing piano, and building LEGO sets. Therapy modalities I use: ACT, DBT, IFS, EFT, Mindfulness Modalities: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Mindfulness.

We could all use a little help at some point and a safe place to receive support. Seeking help and counseling is a courageous act. I’m here to help you explore aspects of your life that may be too hard to look at on your own, gain clarity in areas that you can’t quite make sense of yet and illuminate skills, resources and values that have been muddled for you. I am deeply committed to helping my clients heal and thrive as they cope with anxiety, depression, stress, perfectionism, body image concerns, relationship difficulties, identity changes, etc. I utilize an empathic and collaborative approach to provide culturally sensitive treatment tailored to your needs and goals. Together we will work towards increasing self and relational awareness, identifying and processing emotions, highlighting strengths and values and fostering acceptance.

I believe in equity, equality, and justice for all humans. You well be welcomed here and safe to be yourself regardless of gender, sexuality, race, size, and relationship structure. I am an unwavering ally for the LGBTQ+ community. I approach life, and therapy, from a trauma-informed, social justice, and anti-racist lens. I believe all humans are experiencing some degree of grief and trauma, whether from the ongoing stress of the pandemic/politics, and/or from personal life stressors. Many people have been expending all of their emotional (and physical) energy on just "keeping it together" and surviving. My goal is to offer a safe space for you to slow down, breathe, and be heard. As a therapist, I have the privilege of witnessing the resiliency of the human spirit and the power of the human brain. I will walk alongside you through this journey. I will listen. I will also encourage growth, healing, and emotional development, at your pace. Many of my clients are working towards improvement in the areas of anxiety, grief, trauma, family issues, life transitions or changes, physical symptoms (often caused by emotional stress), and relationship struggles. I often work with people who describe themselves as highly sensitive, perfectionistic, people pleasers, or high achievers. I view counseling as a holistic process and take an integrative approach to working with clients.

I offer my clients a calm and safe place to work through issues that are holding them back from living their best lives. The issues I most often help clients with are anxiety, trauma, adjustment issues, ADHD, and depression. I offer Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), and Neurofeedback Therapy. I have found EMDR to be an amazing tool that has been so helpful in allowing my clients to work through traumatic events which then leads to less anxiety, less depression, higher productivity, and better sleep. I offer a free 15 minute phone consultation to see if we would be a good fit. I look forward to talking with you.

I am currently accepting clients on a short-term basis for crisis counseling. Sliding scale and pro bono services available. My availability is flexible and I offer in person (East Lansing) and Telehealth. I work to help people navigate their complex worlds in order to live a healthier, happier life. I believe that all components of one's life are interrelated. Stress, crisis, life changes and uncertainty happen to everyone, often without warning. When crisis or chaos strike, it is comforting to have someone listen in a safe, open, non-judgmental space in which you can uncover the inner strengths and skills you already possess. I work with clients to create this environment, through which genuine healing, change, and self-empowerment can occur.

Students I work best with are often feeling overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, anxious, or stuck in patterns that are hard to manage alone. Many are navigating stress related to school, relationships, family dynamics, identity, life transitions, self-esteem, trauma, ADHD, or difficulties with emotional regulation and coping skills. I strive to create a supportive, nonjudgmental space where students can feel heard, understood, and empowered while building healthier coping strategies, improving emotional awareness, and working toward personal growth at their own pace.

Today's world is too often scary and overwhelming. For many of us, learning to function & adapt in life as a child, teen or young adult is confusing & difficult. These challenges lead to feeling lonely, frustrated or hopeless. Through our work together, you will become confident in yourself, begin to not just 'get by', but thrive. You will begin to experience a life where being you is more than good enough. Unavoidable challenges become opportunities & you gain control of the most important area, yourself. Working together, you will become equipped to navigate day to day life & the unexpected, emerging stronger, smarter & happier. I am passionate about helping children, teens & young adults understand their emotions through play therapy & cognitive behavior therapy, within a family systems approach. I have valuable experience helping children and families deal with grief, behavioral issues, stress, depression, trauma, & school-related issues. Working with Wellspring Therapeutic Partners means I regularly consult with our team of prescribers and psychologists who specialize in a variety of areas. I can provide seamless referrals for medication management, therapy for loved ones or other household members, groups & EMDR services as needed and appropriate.

One of the things I love most about being a therapist is getting to witness people grow into the fullest, most authentic version of themselves. It’s incredibly meaningful to walk alongside someone as they work through challenges, uncover new insights, and build a life that feels more manageable, intentional, and aligned with who they really are. Watching that progress unfold — from the first session to the breakthroughs along the way — is a privilege I never take for granted. In our sessions, you can expect a space that’s centered around you. I always begin by inviting you to share whatever’s been on your mind lately. I find that when we don’t start there, the thoughts or worries closest to the surface can sometimes get in the way of our deeper work. But if you’re not sure what to talk about or nothing specific is coming up that day, that’s totally okay — I’ll guide us back to the goals you’ve set for therapy or revisit what we’ve been working on. My approach is person-centered, which means you get to lead the way and I’ll meet you there with support and structure. When I describe therapy to people in everyday language, I often say it has two layers. The first is what I call the band-aid approach — where I help you build tools and coping strategies that provide immediate relief. Whether you’re managing anxiety, navigating a conflict, or simply feeling overwhelmed, we’ll work on practical ways to feel better right now. From there, we’ll gently dig deeper into the “why” and the “how” — exploring what’s really going on beneath the surface so we can create long-term change. It’s about building a system in your life that helps you respond more effectively to challenges, emotions, or patterns of behavior. I deeply believe that each person’s story is shaped by their unique life experiences, cultural background, family dynamics, relationships, and more. These influences often play a big role in how we view the world and how we respond to stress or conflict. In therapy, I’ll help you make sense of those influences while also working through whatever issues are most present in your life right now. Healing happens when you’re ready for it — not when someone else tells you it’s time.

I welcome all who seek to understand their life's journey and the struggle they may be currently facing. I value each person and their story and aim to give support, encouragement and guidance as we work together. One of the main ways I have helped others is through brain spotting, which is a very gentle approach to treating trauma and releasing stress stored in the limbic system. Feel free to reach out to me if I can answer questions to help you find the best fit for counseling.
