Drew’s goal to help you find freedom, peace and ease within the changes of your life. To help you understand the processes of your mind and how to use the wisdom of experiencing that understanding to heal. Drew offers online individual counseling to adults and adolescents in Alaska, Washington, and Oregon who struggle with a variety of difficulties ranging from daily stress to persistent mental illness. He has been working in the field of counseling since 2000. He received his Masters of Arts (MA) in Counseling Psychology from Lewis and Clark College and is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oregon and Alaska and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in Washington. Drew’s clinical experience is diverse, having worked with children, adolescents, adults and families. He has treated individuals struggling with anxiety, trauma, depression, addictions, developmental disabilities, autistic spectrum disorders, impulse control and attentional difficulties, relationship problems, grief/loss, and family conflicts. Drew’s theoretical orientation is eclectic, drawing from several different philosophies including person-centered (humanistic), existential, transpersonal, ecopsychology, Buddhist psychology, and gestalt psychology. These philosophies propose that each person has within them an inherent transformative power to realize their human potential. Drew’s goal is to help his clients realize and take responsibility for this power, helping them look deeply at the unfolding process of experience, freeing them from unconscious relationship patterns that may be holding them back from realizing their potential. Drew practices a variety of therapeutic modalities including mindfulness-based cognitive therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, clinical heart centered hypnotherapy and gestalt expressive arts therapy. The therapeutic techniques that Drew uses are tailored to the needs of the individual with an emphasis on the healing power of the therapeutic relationship.
Do you feel stressed, overwhelmed, or confused about your life? Are you trying to figure out who you want to be, what you want to do, or how to have better relationships and improved communication skills? I love working with students who are struggling with: anxiety, depression, career and job search, identity development, relationships, communication, fluctuating emotions, grief, balancing life, and life transitions. College is a wonderful and often life changing experience. It is also a time when so much change happens, that it can feel hard to hold it all together, and difficult to find the support you need to figure out what comes next. I'm here to listen, and here to help you figure out how to make the most of this part of your life. I hope you will reach out. I look forward to meeting you!
What haven't you said? And what might change if you said it? Some things only become known and shift under the right conditions. I'm Andrew, a psychoanalytic psychotherapist in Ashland, OR, remote across OR, MD, and NY. I've been a therapist for 15 years. I work with adults navigating anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, relationship snags, troublesome patterns, career and purpose questions, and the more diffuse sense that something is off. I work with students and graduate students sorting out what it means to become themselves while meeting everyone else's expectations, and with medical students and residents under the particular pressures of clinical training. I've also spent years with addiction, trauma, and more acute struggles. My training is psychoanalytic, but in practice I'm more interested in you than in applying any of it to you. I'm not here to fit you into a framework or hand you formulas for how to be. Together we explore what matters, what repeats, what gets avoided, what happens between us. You come to know what's best. That stays with you anywhere. The first conversation is a brief phone call, fifteen or twenty minutes, to talk about what brought you in and whether we're a fit. Not sure if therapy is for you? That's a fine place to start. Reach out.
Clients who come to my practice are going through life transitions - adjustments to school and moving, relationship concerns, and making life decisions. In addition to traditional therapy practices, I also practice (and teach) ecotherapy - a method of treatment that includes nature in the process. For some people this means we hold our sessions outdoors. For others, we include 'nature prescriptions' in their work outside of the office appointment. These methods are especially helpful for those who love the outdoors, and for clients struggling with depression and anxiety issues.
As a licensed mental health therapist, I am passionate about helping individuals navigate life’s challenges with clarity and confidence. I specialize in working with adults who are facing anxiety, depression, transitions, parenting concerns, and relationship issues. My approach is both structured and directive, empowering clients to make meaningful changes through practical strategies and focused action. Whether you're navigating a major life transition, managing overwhelming emotions, or seeking balance as a parent, I provide a supportive, solution-oriented environment where you can develop the tools needed to thrive. I primarily utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help clients reframe negative thought patterns and engage in cognitive restructuring. Additionally, I focus on enhancing interpersonal effectiveness skills, helping clients improve their communication, set healthy boundaries, and build stronger, more fulfilling relationships. Through a collaborative and goal-focused approach, I will help you break free from unhelpful thought patterns, build effective coping mechanisms, improve your relationships, and achieve a healthier, more fulfilling life. If you're ready to take the first step toward lasting change, I’m here to guide you every step of the way.
It takes courage to seek help, and the rewards of doing so can lead to a lifetime of fulfillment. I understand and have experienced the emotional challenges life has to offer. In working together, we will cultivate growth by understanding the obstacles that you face and develop solutions that can help you gain control of your life and achieve your goals. Ultimately, therapy can lead you to greater self-awareness, self-esteem, and most importantly, a more fulfilling life. I have expertise working with clients who seek help for depression, anxiety, life transition, coping, divorce, family discord, postpartum, baby blues, and much more. Please reach out, and let me support you during your hard times.
I primarily work with individuals struggling with compulsive behavior, including sex/porn addiction, codependency, internet/social media addiction, and problem spending/debting. Addiction is meant to make you feel less. It provides temporary numbing for lifelong pain. You feel trapped, depressed, angry, anxious, guilty, and afraid when you can't stop. Recovering from compulsive behavior, though not easy, is possible and has been accomplished many times. But it does require a complete change in beliefs and attitude, along with how to deal with life and its problems. Getting out of your head and taking action is the next indicated step. Listen to your mind and body - it's time to stop treating yourself so badly. I can help you learn to help yourself. You can become your own best advocate. All are welcome in my office, including those from BIPOC and LGBTQIA communities.

You are enough. There is nothing wrong with your body. You have always been deserving of love, respect, and softness. Yes, even you! Whether it’s strengthening your relationship with yourself through developing more self-compassion, guiding you in how to communicate more effectively with your partner, or helping you navigate a rough conflict with your best friend, I am here to provide you with non-judgmental support every step of the way. My clients are often fat folks, queer besties, sex workers, and people experiencing chronic pain or chronic illness. This is a space for you to be seen, heard, and validated in your beauty and complexity. I will always be transparent with you about the ins and outs of the therapeutic process because I believe that collaboration and consent are vital to creating safety and trust in our time together. I view therapy as a potential cozy space for corrective, reparative experiences that can start to soften clients’ inner experiences. That’s the whole idea behind the name “Soft Spot”: melting away the hardness that our society or trauma forces unto us and, in place, deepening into more of the lovely softness that’s always been there. You get to delight in the pleasure of being you.

It is exhausting being on-edge and feeling dissociated from yourself and others all the time! You want to understand yourself more, improve your relationships with others, and experience true meaning and purpose. Most importantly, you just want to feel like you're in control of your life again. As your therapist I combine my training in emotionally focused, interpersonal, and existential-humanistic approaches to support folks navigate issues of identity, existential overwhelm, anxiety and mood disorders, and relational concerns. I create a space where you can explore, navigate, and overcome your distress to feel more authentic in and in control of your life. It turns out living through the apocalypse can be pretty terrifying and overwhelming, but the good news is you do not have to do it alone. I look forward to hearing from folks motivated to explore what is most important to them, and what gets in the way of them pursuing it. I offer virtual individual intensives and group therapy.
